It’s not just the competing athletes that get to experience the 2016 School Games. A range of exciting and innovative opportunities exist for schools and young people across the School Games to maximise their experience at the event. The sport on view will be absorbing, intense and choc full of drama. But the excitement doesn’t end there. There are lots of things to see and do around the competition programme that provide even more reasons to come along and experience the games. What will you choose to get involved in?

What to expect?

  • Meet Dan Freedman, children author, creator of the Jamie Johnson series, introduce his new book Unstoppable. Dan will discuss how sport inspires his writing and gave him his love of reading. He will also share some top tips for writing and a literacy focused challenge using the inspiration of the School Games.

• Try New Sports – There will be a range of new and familiar sports for you to have a go at throughout the day in the Spectator Zone and a chance to meet the Freestyle Football Federation who will be performing and showing off their skills.

• Food and drink – there are a range of healthy, street food style vendors cooking up an assortment of tasty, healthy dishes, you may even get a chance to have a go at making some too.

• How do you measure up? There will be sports and exercise students running some fitness tests and activities for you to join in with at the JAE Stars zone, linking in with the UK Sport and English Institute of Sport’s Performance Pathways Team on Discover Your Gold campaign, a talent identification initiative due to be launched over the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

If this all sounds too exhausting there will be a range of performances throughout the day in at the Spectator Zone for your entertainment including, circus skills, dance workshops, music and much more. Plus, the opportunity to sit back and relax and watch the live streaming.
