SCOTLAND SELECTION POLICY
1.Designated Regions
1.1 Scottish Swimming will compete at the Games as two Regional Teams. These teams
will be selected on a split as West/North, and East/South.
1.2 The West/North will be designated as schools lying to the west and north of a line that
extends from south of Stonehaven to Pitlochry, to Carluke and finally to a point south
of Ayr. The East/South region will be designated as schools lying to the East and
South of this line.
2.Selection Criteria
2.1 Swimmers for the Multi-Classification events will be selected based upon the published
‘Multi-Classification Events Supplementary Eligibility Criteria’ – appendix 1. Points 2.3
– 2.5 do not apply.
2.2 Boys and Girls aged 16 and under on 31st December 2015 are eligible for selection.
2.3 Selections will be made from results achieved at accredited long course meets held in
the UK from 1st September 2014 to 30th April 2015. Only results included in the British
rankings database will be considered.
2.4 Results from meets outside the UK during this period may be considered by the
Selection Committee at the discretion of the National Coach. Only results included in
the British rankings database will be considered.
2.5 The fastest available swimmer for each individual event will be selected subject to a
maximum of two individual swims.
2.6 Where the number of qualifying athletes exceeds the team limit (26 including disability
swimmers – 13 male & 13 female) the Selection Committee will determine the final
selection of the team in order to ensure the best possible team utilizing multi-event
swimmers.
2.7 Where there is a tie for the fastest available swimmer in an event, the Selection
Committee will take into account the following information to determine the selection:
(a) if the relevant swimmers will be selected in another event, (b) the date of the
qualifying swim, (c) the standard of competition of the qualifying swim, (d) each
swimmers’ other performances on that event during the selection period.
2.8 Selected swimmers should note that to ensure the best possible result for the team,
the events they have been selected to swim can be changed up to the day prior to start
of competition (4th September) by the Team Coaches, in liaison with the National
Coach, where swimmers have lost form or are considered to be ill or injured. Following this changes may be made on medical grounds only.
3.Individual Events
3.1 The fastest available swimmers will be selected to compete in the following individual
events (programme of events in appendix 2):

3.2 Swimmers for each event will be identified by the swimmer holding the highest British
Para-Swimming Points in each as per Multi-Classification Events Supplementary
Eligibility Criteria (appendix 1):

4.Relays
4.1 Swimmers selected for individual events as above, may be selected for up to three
relay events as follows:

All swimmers selected for individual events are eligible to be selected for relays. The
respective Head Coaches for each team will be responsible for determining relay
selections and relay orders on the day of the competition from the pool of athletes
available in their team. Coaches will be given full authority and discretion to choose the
fastest available team on the day of the competition based on their experience and the
information available to them.
5.Selection Procedure
5.1 A Selection Committee, comprising of Scottish Swimming National Coach (Alan Lynn),
Performance Director (Ally Whike) and Disability Performance Development Manager
(Paul Wilson), will select both swimmers and staff for each regional team.
5.2 The Selection Process will be completed by the week ending 22nd May 2015 to allow
sufficient time to inform both swimmers and their schools.
5.3 Swimmers will be selected in line with the criteria above.
5.4 Staffing will consist of:
▪ Two Lead Team Managers – one for each regional team
▪ Two assistant Team Managers – one for each regional team and should be under
the age of 25
▪ Four coaches – Lead coaches must hold the UKCC Level 3 Coaching Swimming
Certificate or have equivalent experience. All must be licensed and one per team
should be under the age of 25.
▪ Disability Support Staff (as required – up to a maximum of 3)
6.General
6.1 Only swimmers ‘in full time education’ will be considered for selection.
6.2 The maximum number of swimmers per team will be 26 (13 male swimmers & 13 female
swimmers which includes disability swimmers).
6.3 Swimmers becoming ill or injured at any time between their selection and the Sainsbury’s
2015 School Games may be required to undertake a full medical examination which may
result in the swimmer being released from the team.
6.4 Where a swimmer is withdrawn from the team as a result of 6.2 they may be replaced by
the next fastest and eligible swimmer, taking into consideration the sequence of events.
6.5 Other than substitution via 6.3 there is a no replacement policy for swimmers. Therefore
any swimmer who withdraws from the team following agreeing to their selection, for any
other reason other than illness or injury, as confirmed by a Doctors Medical Certificate,
may be liable for reimbursement of any costs incurred.
6.6 All selected team members will be required to sign and comply with the Sainsbury’s 2015
School Games Code of Conduct.
6.7 Current World Class Podium and Podium Potential Athletes are not eligible for selection.
Any athlete selected for the World Class Programme after School Games selection will be
withdrawn from the competition. For MC athletes please refer to Appendix 1 below.
6.8 Any swimmers selected for the FINA World Junior Championships or the Commonwealth
Youth Games are ineligible for selection.
6.9 If the Sainsbury’s 2015 Schools Games Organizing Committee withdraws an event from
the programme after the final entry date a swimmer may be de-selected from the Team.
6.10 The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
APPENDIX 1
Multi-Classification Events Supplementary Eligibility Criteria
These criteria must be read in conjunction with the Scottish Swimming Selection Policy.
For selections to be confirmed all swimmers must be eligible to compete for Scottish
Swimming in the School Games 2015 and hold a British Swimming national classification, IPC
international classification or INAS-FID international classification
The events shall be on a S1-14 Multi-Classification basis with the medalists being determined by the
3 swimmers scoring the highest number of British Para-Swimming Points in the following events.
SUPPLEMENTARY CRITERIA
1. Swimmers must hold a current national classification, IPC International classification or INAS-
FID international classification and be on the classification database at time of selection.
2. Swimmers are eligible to compete in a maximum of 3 events.
3. Swimmers for each event shall be identified, in the first instance, by the swimmer holding the
highest number of British Para-Swimming points based upon the results from the 2014 British
Gas National Short Course Championships.
4. For events in which swimmers have not been identified from the competition identified in 3
results from other competitions during the selection period may be utilized.
5. Swimmers selected on the British Para-Swimming Podium or Podium Potential programme
above level E for 2014/15 will not be eligible for selection. Any athlete selected for the 2015
IPC Swimming World Championships will not be eligible for selection.
